Movie Review: Trick R' Treat

Sat Oct 10, 2009, 4:00 PM
FINALLY! AFTER 2 YEARS ON THE BACK BURNER, TRICK R' TREAT IS FINALLY ON DVD! And Oh My God is it awesome.

Trick R' Treat is an anthology movie that follows four different stories that take place in the same town on the same night. There's the tale of a high school principal (Dylan Baker) who moonlights as a serial killer. Another about a college "virgin" (Anna Paquin) who might just get lucky this Halloween. Unfortuately, she's also being stalked by a masked killer. Then there's a story about a group of teens who pull a prank that turns dangerous. And lastly, the story of Mr. Kreeg (Brian Cox) a hermit who hates Halloween, but then gets a visit from a mysterious Trick or Treater named Sam (Quinn Lord), who is actually the very spirit of Halloween himself. Sam prides himself in killing those who don't follow the Halloween traditions (Handing out candy, Dressing up, not blowing out Jack O' Lanterns till midnight, etc.)

It's very frightening, and morbidly funny at times. I personally, the story with Sam vs. Mr. Kreeg and Anna Paquin's stories the most interesting and awesome. Almost every story has a little M. Night Shyamilan style twist at the end, but most of them are 100x more awesome. Quinn Lord doesn't have an actual speaking role as Sam (which is short for Samhain, the original gaelic name for Halloween.) he still plays the part incredibly creepily, silently walking around in his burlap, button eyed mask.

There's not much that can be said without spoiling something as every story ties in somehow. But I will say there is one scene where Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) by Marilyn Manson is playing, and that is one of the most epic parts I've ever seen in a movie.

Unfortunately, this film was never released in theaters, due to WB's stupidity and inability to find a distributer. Two years ago this was suppossed to be released in theaters, but instead, they just kind of let it lie for 2 years and then finally decided to just send it straight to DVD. The cool thing is though, that this movie was so anticipated, that it actually sold more pre-orders than Twilight did tickets. (For those who know me, I despise Twilight with a burning passion.)

Anyway I'm too far off topic now.

Bottom Line: WATCH THIS MOVIE! Don't rent it. It's too good for that. Buy the damn thing, and watch it every October. Great movie to see with friends.

Final Score: Trick R' Treat gets a 9/10

Trick R' Treat is rated R for Horror Violence, Some Sexuality/Nudity, and language

Did you know there's a petition to get "Primal Rage 2" released...

And there's talk that if we show Atari that there's still an interest out here among us fans they may end up doing A Next-gen Remake of the first one.

Here's the petition if your interested..

Dear DIE-ary; Today I put a baby in a microwave..... maybe there is something wrong with me after all..

That would be pretty damn interesting. I personally would love to see a next gen Primal Rage. Hopefully they'll add some new characters though. The original seven are awesome, but only 7 characters in a fighting game can get a little boring.
